Recommended Literature

Everett True - Nirvana, The True Story
Journalist & former Constrictor artist
An honest, moving, incisive, heartfelt re-evaluation of a band that have been misrepresented time and time again since their untimely demise in April 1994. The true story written by the only journalist allowed into Cobain’s house immediately after Kurt Cobain’s death. Everett True captures what the band were really like…

Oscar Wilde - Collected Works Of Oscar Wilde
A collection of Oscar Wildes’s many varied works. These include the tender fairy stories he wrote for his children; his novels, many of which shocked and outraged many readers of his day; plays which were enormously successful and continue to be so; and poems and essays…

Desmond Morris - The Human Zoo
When “The Naked Ape” was first published in 1967, it shocked many people and became the subject of heated debate, the main objection being that Desmond Morris had written about human beings as though they were just another animal species. “The Human Zoo” examines man as captive animal under the stresses and pressures of urban living…

Ford Madox Ford - The Good Soldier / The Saddest Story
First published in 1915, Ford Madox Ford’s The Good Soldier begins, famously and ominously, “This is the saddest story I have ever heard.” The book then proceeds to confute this pronouncement at every turn, exposing a world less sad than pathetic, and more shot through with hypocrisy and deceit than its incredulous narrator, John Dowell, cares to imagine…

Concert Review

Written by Daniela Vorndran
Just after reading the announcements it was very clear that this tour should become something special. The setlist consisted only of songs out of the three re-released albums, whereof the most successful from each album was played as encore. The band influenced by British Punk and New Wave oscillate stylistically between Pop and Avantgarde. Continuous attribute are catchy melodic refrains broken by mood changes or alienated. The high and clear chant of Pia Lund is fronted by the throaty voice of Phillip Boa. The first third of the set was reserved for the album ‘Copperfield’ whereof seven songs were played. Just the first song ‘Laugh, Planet’ started with heavy drums. The microphone was a bit too low, but soon it became better and the sound during the whole show was very good. After ‘Copperfield’, BOA turned to the album ‘Hair’ which he acknowledged with nine songs. ‘Albert is a headbanger’ and ‘Fine art in Silver’ were probably those two songs out off that album which became the most applause during the show…

Boa Re-Mastered

The remastered three classic and groundbreaking albums COPPERFIELD, HAIR and HISPANOLA by Phillip Boa & the Voodooclub are being re-released for the first time!

What has made eardrums of fans of international artists such as The Cure or David Bowie rejoice over the past couple of years, is finally up for the German music legend Phillip Boa as well: the working up of the partially hardly available back catalogue in the form of remastered re-releases of the classic albums.

Boa’s album’s Copperfield, Hair and Hispanola which are being released in a remastered way in summer with circumstantial booklets and bonus tracks are kicking things off. Praised euphorically on their first release as international masterpieces by the British NME or Melody Maker, these treasures of rock music by one of Germany’s most important independent artists are finally being made available again to the mass audience.

Boa himself controled the remastering of the recordings and discovered – along with the original producer, Conny Plank-Schüler and mastering guru E.roc – almost forgotten outtakes, alternate takes and songs never released. Special shows in autumn will prove that we’re not dealing with a simplistic re-release of Boa’s work. On these occasions, extracts from the three classics Copperfield, Hair and Hispanola are being performed live in a new musical form. In times of more and more young and short-lived acts a welcome constant in the otherwise fast moving music business.

The first three BOA RE-MASTERED albums
COPPERFIELD, HAIR and HISPANOLA
available from 1 September on Universal Music
